Eldon Square

A Charity Drive was held by the Newcastle group in "Eldon Square" everyday this past week. (Eldon Square is a very busy shopping area in the center of Newcastle) For five days, Rotarians and volunteers stood on the streets asking if people want to be involved in raising money for the Freeman Hospital Children's Heart Unit and the Great North Air Ambulance service. More to come about this later...

Operation Christmas Child

Samaritan's Purse
Collecting shoeboxes and spreading the word about Samaritan's Purses "Operation Christmas Child" was a joy as you can see.

These are pictures of children in the past who have been helped by this awesome project. The Newcastle Rotary Club used their resources and time to fill boxes with presents for children. These shoeboxes will be sent around the world and hopefully bring a smile to a sweet child’s face.

If you would like to be involved with this great organization in the future, here are the websites:

Shelter Boxes

We have just been given an exciting update on the money rasied by the Newcastle upon Tyne Rotary Club. Because of continued donations and work by the Rotarians, they were able to donate 700 more GBP. In total over 1,400 GBP (about $2,800) was given to the
Shelter Box project.

Car Boot Sale

What is a "Car Boot" sale? We had to learn more British vocabulary. A car boot is what those from the U.S. would call a car trunk. In England, this type of sale is also known as a brick-a-brack sale.

The Car Boot sale held Saturday looked like what many in the U.S. would call a flea-market. There were rows of booths containing odds and ends of all sorts on sale by different groups and individuals.

The Newcastle Rotary club set up a booth at the Tynemouth Metro Center. Rotarians and their families donated items for the sale. All the profits went to the club's general fund. We will update you later to let you know how much money was raised at this event.
